Why We Built Kolla Crispy Point as a Heritage Institution, Not Just a Shop

It Started With Snacks, But Never Ended There

When we opened Kolla Crispy Point in Malleswaram, people saw shelves filled with mixtures, murukkus, sweets and regional specialities.

From the outside, it looked like a premium snack shop.

But in our minds, we were starting something very different—a slow project to build a heritage institution around vegetarian food.

An institution is not defined by its square feet. It is defined by:

The stories it protects

The rituals it nurtures

The trust it earns across generations

That has always been our north star.

Why Heritage Matters to Us

India’s food culture is not just recipes. It is:

Names of small towns printed on sweet boxes,

Temple dishes tied to specific festivals,

Pickle recipes that carry grandmother’s handwriting.

As the world becomes faster and more standardised, many of these quiet details risk disappearing. We didn’t want to watch that happen from the sidelines.

So we asked ourselves a bigger question:

“What if a single store could behave like a small museum, library and kitchen—without losing the warmth of a local shop?”

Kolla Crispy Point became our answer.

What “Heritage Institution” Means in Daily Practice

In our day-to-day work, the word “heritage” is not decoration. It affects how we make decisions.

What We Stock
We prefer items with a clear origin and story: Melukote Puliyogare, Srivilliputhur Palkova, Tirunelveli Wheat Halwa, spices from specific regions.

How We Pack
We constantly upgrade packaging to protect products on long journeys while still reflecting a classic, calm aesthetic.

How We Speak to Customers
We don’t just list ingredients. We tell stories—of towns, traditions, families and festivals—so that every purchase feels connected to something larger.

How We Think About Time
We make decisions not only for this quarter’s sales but for the reputation we want to hold ten, twenty, fifty years from now.

The Role of Kolla Heritage Journal

This very blog category, Kolla Heritage Journal, is part of that dream.

Here we will:

Document stories behind products, people and places.

Share what we are learning as we try to blend luxury retail with Indian tradition.

Open small windows into our process—packaging, sourcing, customer experiences and long-term plans.

Think of it as a quiet notebook where we record the journey of Kolla Crispy Point as it slowly grows from a store into an institution.

Looking Ahead: From One Store to Many Memories

We don’t know exactly how the future will look—whether it is more physical stores, a foundation, archives or something we have not imagined yet.

What we do know is this:

We will remain fully vegetarian.

We will stay committed to heritage foods and honest ingredients.

We will keep treating every customer interaction as part of a much longer story.

An Invitation

If you are reading this, you are already part of our journey.

Maybe you walked into the store on a casual evening and discovered something new.
Maybe you live in another city or country and found us online.
Maybe someone gifted you a Kolla hamper and you came looking for more.

However you arrived here, thank you for giving us a small place in your home and memories. Through Kolla Heritage Journal, we hope to keep sharing the story behind the shelves and build an institution that outlives all of us in the best possible way.
